Johnny Marzetti Casserole

A classic Midwestern pasta bake featuring ground beef, cheese, and tomato sauce, offering a comforting and hearty meal.

  • 9×13-inch baking dish
  • Mixing spoon
  • Oven
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar of marinara sauce
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until onion is soft, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Mix cooked pasta into the sauce mixture and pour into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Top with shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Use ground turkey as a leaner alternative to ground beef.

For extra flavor, add mushrooms or bell peppers.

Make it ahead and refrigerate before baking for a quick dinner.

Try using different cheeses like mozzarella or provolone for variety.
